The words in the English language
are grouped into parts of speech according to their meanings and their
functions. There are eight parts of speech.
A.
NOUN
A
noun is a word used as the name of anything – a person, an animal, an object, a
place, a situation, a quality or an idea.
Example:

Take
your book, please!
b.
She
met a man yesterday.
c.
Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia.
B.
PRONOUN
A
pronoun is a word used as a substitute for a noun.
Example:
a.
She is beautiful.
b.
we are happy.
c.
They will come here.
C.
VERB
A
verb is a word that tells of an action or state of being and the time of when
it is.
Example:
a.
He
studies Grammar.
b.
We
walk to school.
c.
Stars
appear at night.
D.
ADJECTIVE
An
adjective is a word that qualifies a noun by describing it.
Example:
a.
He
is diligent boy.
b.
This
is a thin book.
c.
She
has long hair.
E.
ADVERB
An
adverb is a word that modifies or discribes a verb, an adjective or another
adverb.
Example:
a.
He
runs quickly.
b.
She
speaks English well.
c.
I
must study hard.
F.
PREPOSITION
A
preposition is a word placed before a noun or pronoun to show its relationship
to some other words in a sentence.
Example:
a.
The
book is on the table.
b.
She
goes to school.
c.
I
sit beside her.
G.
CONJUNCTION
A
conjunction is a word used to connect one word to another word, or one sentence
to another sentence.
Example:
a.
Fanny
and Putri came yesterday.
b.
She
is beautiful but lazy.
c.
He
has breakfast before he goes to school.
H.
INTERJECTION
An
interjection is an exclamatory word or phrase to express a sudden feeling of mind
or emotion.
Example:
a.
Oh
my God! my hand is very sick.
b.
Alas!
he realize his folly too late.
c.
Hurrah!
we have won!
